Pangolins are hardly of this earth. They look like a living artichoke, only 1,000 times more precious. They are found in Africa & Asia where there are a number of different species - all well adapted to their environment. Some climb trees in the dense jungle, some dig in the hot caked earth, all can curl themselves into a tight ball keeping their face and belly safe from predators.
Unfortunately pangolins are one of the most heavily trafficked animal on earth. The pangolins are hunted for their scales which are used in traditional Asian medicine, yet have no proven medical value (the scales are made of keratin, basically giant fingernails). They are also hunted for meat, which when hunted ethically is a good source of local meat, though as demand skyrockets in countries far from their natural environment it sends the balance into the red.
They are a keystone species, which like other species such as the Salmon or Lamprey, uphold entire ecosystems. They keep termite populations in check as well upturn soil, acting like a little living rototiller.
They are in need of our attention and protection right now - for the world will be a lesser place without these mystical beings.
In honor of education and conservation $1 from each sticker goes towards Save Pangolins, an organization dedicated to keeping the Pangolin safe through conservation.
